Senior Managing Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager

Location: Newry / Co. Louth region, with project travel as required
Salary: Competitive package, negotiable depending on experience

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Managing Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager for an established specialist civil engineering contractor delivering challenging infrastructure projects across Ireland and the UK. The business operates in trenchless engineering, tunnelling, pipe-jacking, microtunnelling, wastewater and pipeline rehabilitation, and associated civil engineering works.

The Role

This is a senior commercial appointment offering the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial performance of a portfolio of specialist civil engineering projects, working closely with senior management, operations and project delivery teams.

• Lead commercial management from tender handover through to final account.
• Oversee budgets, cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow and project profitability.
• Manage contract administration, variations, claims, subcontract procurement and commercial negotiations.
• Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and contractual obligations.
• Support tendering, pricing and pre-construction activities.
• Lead and mentor quantity surveying staff as the commercial function develops.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and project teams.

The Ideal Candidate

• Strong background as a Senior QS, Managing QS or Commercial Manager in civil engineering or specialist contracting.
• Experience in utilities, water infrastructure, tunnelling, ground engineering or trenchless works would be advantageous.
• Commercial knowledge of relevant forms of contract, cost control and subcontract management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
• Commercially astute, proactive and comfortable taking ownership.
